Terry will demonstrate this month's program.

Get ready to raid those button tins and dive into your stash! For our October program, we are exploring the charming, tactile world of button art. Whether you want to spell out something personal or create a symmetrical geometric masterpiece, this project offers a fun and creative way to mix hardware with handwork.

In this month's program, members will choose between creating a custom Button Letter or a stunning Button Mandala. It's a wonderful opportunity to play with color, scale, and texture while transforming ordinary buttons into extraordinary art!

The Project Details for the Button Art

The finished project should roughly be around 5" and will be a front and back piece.

Needle Art Technique:

• Mixed-Media Embroidery

• Assemblage

Materials

• Buttons: A varied assortment of buttons (different sizes, shapes, colors, and vintage styles—raid your stash!)

• Base Fabric: Sturdy fabric such as canvas, linen, or felt to support the weight of the buttons

• Muslin Fabric: May need to added to provide extra stability

• Thread: Strong sewing thread or embroidery floss for attaching buttons securely

• Backing/Support: Stiff stabilizer, mounting board, or a small frame to finish to display your piece

Supplies

• Needles: Standard sewing needles appropriate for your thread and button eye sizes

• Miscellaneous: Hoopd, sharp fabric scissors, pins, craft glue or fabric adhesive (optional, for temporary placement), and a pencil or chalk for mapping out your design.
