Teacher: Sharon Skantz

Introduction to Jacobean Crewel Embroidery, designed by Leslie Mehard Brady Image

The finished size is no larger than 5 inches wide by 5 inches tall.

Stitching Techniques:

  • Running Stitch

Here is a supply list if you didn't buy the kit or may be sharing the kit with someone:

  • Sashiko Needle

    • A good substitute would be a darning, milliner, or crewel needle. They need to be a long needle with a large eye.

  • Sashiko Thread - this has a tighter twist compare to other thread, but you can also use pearl cotton, or embroidery floss.

  • Pre-printed fabric designed for Sashiko stitching. You can also use cotton, linen or sarashi fabric and create your own pattern.

  • Scissors/cutting tools

  • Rulers [if you are making your own pattern]

  • Marker, this will need to wash out if you need to mark the fabric.

  • Thimble

If the coaster kit isn't available on Amazon, you can visit a fantastic resource site to learn about the meditative Sashiko technique at https://www.zenstitching.ca/blog/sashiko-supplies.

Please add your progress or finished project in the comments!
